History Dump

This part of the site is for anyone interested in learning history stuff. I myself am a big fan of history, and have collected some channels and sites that may be interesting for other people. Please Enjoy!

Also, please note that my primary interests are around Political history and civilisations. I do find other stuff interesting, but I may not think to add it here just yet.

There is going to be an index guide up to the top here when I can feel bothered to make it, but for now it is like this: barren, and empty. ;(

History on Youtube

Youtube has become a major place of knowledge. While it may not be acceptable to cite a youtube video as a university-level source, they sure do make history fun, in all kinds of mediums! Please feel free to look through these channels for some cool stuff!

  • Roman History

    • Historia Civilis

This channel is possibly one of the best channels when it comes to anything about Rome's republic. The creator recently finished the final instalment of his series on Octavian, which means he might also maybe start a new series on the 12 Caesars? Who knows! I look forward to his content regardless. Told through little coloured squares, Historia Civilis breaks down complex idea's and stories into easy to understand retellings. Very entertaining, and the coolest outro music! ALSO, he cites his sources, which is good if you have a project to speedrun at 10pm ;)

    • Kings and Generals

This is probably one of the most famous channels for Roman history; really most history, and has videos on almost every part of the world. Very much a great way of learning, which I find really entertaining and informative. My only gripes are that they don't leave a reference list anywhere, which I find a little uncomfortable (where did they get their facts from??? I gotta know yk); and that they sort of leave out African history. They do have some stuff on the regions, but to me I feel like it would be an especially interesting thing to learn more in depth about the Ghanan, Malian, Songhai, Khanem, or Kushitic states.

  • Egyptian/Middle Eastern History

    • History with Cy

This channel is amazing to look at, and THEY HAVE THEIR SOURCES!!! The creator creates tons of content about Middle Eastern Bronze Age history. It is really in depth, and explores all sorts of aspects of life for Hittites, Elamites, Babylonians, Akkadians, and more. However, his focus is on Egyptian history, where he has the most content, but also has a running series called Egypt: Dynasty by Dynasty. It's fascinating to watch, and really worth checking out.

    • Al Muqaddimah

Al Muqaddimah does great content on the history of Islam. His content focuses on the later Islamic world, especially during the Golden Age. It is a fascinating period, and he tackles all sorts of questions on the Islamic world, though with a focus on the Arabic and South Asian worlds. He also tries to show different perspectives on events, and argues why he thinks they are misguided/correct. Worth checking out!
